Hello, my name is Maison Johan Choe...

On New Year's Eve in 2016, my mom received a call from the doctor who told her to go to the emergency room quickly because he found abnormal blood cells in blood work. The doctor said that leukemia was suspected but I had seemed so healthy, so the emergency room doctors said they were misinformed. However, on January 3, a bone marrow test confirmed the prevalence of Acute Childhood Leukemia called Pre-B Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL).

My mother was so overwhelmed and confused because there had been no cancer history in her family. That was the day the sky collapsed for her and she felt as though her heart was struck by a dagger. After the confirmation, I went into chemotherapy that day and was diagnosed a week later with a rare genetic mutation called Mixed Lineage Leukemia (MLL). MLL does not respond well to chemotherapy, and the cure rate is very low. Because of this, chemotherapy has a very high risk protocol. My treatment is expected to last for three and a half years and it seems that nobody can guarantee an exact cure rate. The chemotherapy that I am currently receiving is being done in hopes of eliminating all leukemia cells. On February 3, I was tested to see if the chemotherapy of this stage was successful with a bone marrow test. This test was followed by chemotherapy to eliminate the remaining leukemia cells. From this time on, I will enter long-term cancer treatment. Please help me win this long battle...

It is not a fight I can win alone...
